| Alcoholdehydrogenaseclass4mu/sigmachain(ADH7)isacytoplasmenzymewhichisamemberofthealcoholdehydrogenasefamily.Theexpressionofthisgenemakesitmuchmoreabundantinthestomachthantheliver,thusitdiffersfromtheotherknowngenefamilymembers.ADH7mayparticipateinthesynthesisofretinoicacid,ahormoneimportantforcellulardifferentiation.Medium-chain(octanol)andaromatic(m-nitrobenzaldehyde)compoundsarethebestsubstrates.Ethanolisnotagoodsubstratebutatthehighethanolconcentrationsreachedinthedigestivetract,itplaysaroleintheethanoloxidationandcontributestothefirstpassethanolmetabolism. |
